Interview with AFL Member Carolina
In this blog post, I interview valued AFL member Carolina who explains the three big barriers to success. If you want to find out how she has moved country, started a family and worked a full-time job while becoming a property investor, then continue reading.
Question: Where are you from?
Response: I am from Mexico originally?
Question: Why did you decide that you want to become a professional property investor?
Response: I’ve had the idea to do property investing for a long time – my family in Mexico own properties and I always knew that I would start a portfolio over there. Moving here, that dream just flew away and I had to start from zero. In Mexico I had a business and administration degree and when I moved to the UK, I had to start from nowhere.
Now I work in HR, but when covid-19 started, I saw my position being threatened with redundancies and I had to make a change.
Question: How did you meet me and Jay?
Response: I met Jay at the gym, I knew his personal trainer and she recommended the bootcamp.
Question: So, you spent 3 days with us in what we call the Property Millionaires Bootcamp. Did that bootcamp light that spark in you, what was your experience?
Response: I thought, how can I do this if I don’t have any money, but it was great because I told myself that I believe in this, I had guidance from you and I became obsessed. I wanted to learn everything and got family involved.
Question: So, you went out to friends and family to tell them what you did right?
Response: It was crazy. My husband supported me a lot and I was my first investor which was worth it because I was able to put myself on the spot.
Question: When you started to use other people’s money, was there a shift in your mindset? How did you feel when you got that first investor over the line?
Response: It was a big feeling – I realised that yes, this is my company, this is what I achieved, and I am the face of the company.
Question: What would you say has been your biggest challenge since becoming a property investor?
Response: The biggest challenge for me was overcoming the fears of talking to agents over the phone because of my accent. I preferred to do it face to face.
Question: Explain a moment or situation where you got excited about what you were doing?
Answer: That would be after the bootcamp when I was home, I felt all the ideas coming through and we stayed up till 5 in the morning talking about how life changing this would be.
Question: For anyone tuning into this right now where the language or mindset is a barrier, what would be your message to them?
Answer: If you can believe it, you can do it. If you’re willing to make the effort and make it work, you’ll be able to do it. However, it is important to find the help that you need.
